The Flat Broke Cookbook Thrifty Meals Shopping Tips for Tough Times Daisy Luther 9781795123303 Books Reviews

  • I own every book that Dorothy Luther has written, and I refer back to them over and over again. I collect cook books, but this one with the simple recipes is now my favorite over all the others! The recipes are inexpensive to make, family-friendly and delicious! Dorothy Luther has not only inspired me to cook from scratch, but now she has given me a book full of recipes that are mostly made from scratch. So far, my family has enjoyed every recipe I have made from this wonderful book.
  • We've been through some rough patches. I wish I'd had this book then. I am glad that I have it now! The recipes are simple and nutrituionally sound. The tips for learning to cook from scratch are helpful for those not used to doing so.
  • The book is excellent, the recipes are very easy and delicious. I own all her books and they are all good and so enjoyable to read
  • You can always count on Daisy Luther to write a book you can really use. All of us have had lean times but we still needed to feed our families meals that will keep them going all day. This is that book. Nothing fancy, just good plain food that tastes good enough to feed to friends. If you have a bit extra you can pretty them up with chopped parsley or a sprinkling of paprika on top.
This is the perfect book for young adults moving out of home for the first time up to the families or individuals that are between jobs or have had an unusually high expenditure that didn’t fit in the monthly budget. Everyone should own this book “just in case”.
  • Recipes look good and simple to make. Tips on frugal shopping. However, there is no indication of how many servings a recipe is for, and in many cases, no indication of how long it takes to make.

So it looks like a book that was thrown together quickly to help people cope with tough times, the most recent and widespread crisis being the recent government shut down. While I think it achieves that goal, the missing information is a pretty serious shortcoming.
  • Daisy offered the book free for a period of time. I received a free copy. That aside, I have recommended the book to friends and when I am feeling richer or putting items on my Xmas list, I am getting a hard copy. You know the saying, "its all in the details". Well these are simple twists on everyday ingredients with delicious results. I am sure some of you are saying, "I know how to do that....", but you will learn something new. My Boy Scout is working on the Cooking Merit Badge, I gave him a recipe and he has shopped for the ingredients and prepared the meal, it was good. The Flat Broke Cookbook is changing my shopping patterns to include more base ingredients, that can be purchased in bulk, rather than pre-prepared, packaged food.
  • Love this Cookbook. Really a good resource for people in need of eating and no money.
  • Great cookbook for those who want good food and like to cook but do not have a lot of money
