Waking the Tiger Within How to Be Safe from Crime Scott Flint 9781934903001 Books Reviews
- I have been a lifetime student of numerous martial arts (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate-Do, Kenjutsu, Hanbo-Jitsu etc.) studying various combative systems. I am always looking for new material related to the martial arts and self-defense. I recently picked up this (Waking the Tiger within How to be safe from crime by Scott Flint) interesting and informative book at a bargain price on .
I found this 136 soft cover book very appealing because the philosophy presented by the author when it comes to safety and self-defense matches my own street combat principles which I have often wrote about in my many books and manuals. The ten chapters cover the following topics The right to defend yourself is explored in chapter one and the author pulls no punches in his view on this issue. Basically, this means to never look for trouble but if you are forced to defend yourself you MUST become ruthless and vicious as a tiger. The second chapter deals with the most important factor in protecting yourself which is awareness. With our dumb phone society 90 % of the people walk around with their noses in their phones and are easy pickings for a dirt bag. Chapter three is about recognizing and developing the natural tiger within you. The fourth chapter explains the “stop button†theory which is essential for defending yourself on the street. The fifth chapter gives advice on home defense. Group attacks are covered in chapter six. Chapter seven tells how to make travel safer. Chapter eight and nine explores children issues and dealing with bullies. The final chapter covers dealing with terrorists in our modern society.
If you are seeking an excellent and concise book with to the point practical and realistic advice on safety and pure self-defense, this book is for you.
Rating 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author Pro-Systems Combatives Vol. 1,2). - Easy to read, understand, and remember, this concise volume supplies straightforward instructions on personal protection from criminals. The advice is to the point, minimizing situational nuance and anecdotal discussion. The author explains how almost anyone can avoid being an easy mark and how he/she can disable an attacker and escape danger if necessary. Children are told how to deal with would-be kidnappers and bullies.
In modern societies, many individuals are so burdened by concepts of sensitivity and political correctness that they are ready prey for criminals. The author pulls no punches in emphasizing why and how these attitudes must be set aside. To be safe, there are things people simply MUST do and things people simply MUST NOT do in a world menaced by strongarm carjackings, gang wildings, vicious home invasions, and terroristic spree killings.
In one day, most readers can absorb this book and steel a wobbly outlook or strengthen an existing resolve to be a non-victim. - It's not going to cause you to become like Chuck Norris, but it'll help you to know what to do to become aware of your surroundings. Especially if you're a woman.
- This is a good book to have for gaining the proper mind set for any possiblity of physical assault. It's a good motivator, and what it says speaks to human nature, the nature to survive. I consider it a must read.
- After reading this book, I feel strong, empowered, and beautiful every time. Thank you Scott Flint, I hope you keep expanding and writing!
- Author Scott Flint has done a nice job with Waking the Tiger Within. It's basic and it's simple, which is exactly what self-defense should be. This is true whether you're facing a dangerous person in the proverbial dark alley, protecting yourself from a carjacker or protecting your kids from the many predators that lurk about these days.
Flint's writing style is uncomplicated, again exactly as it should be.
Waking the Tiger contains a couple of chapters that go beyond what most books on this subject offer helping kids deal with bullies and learning how to be safe from terrorism. I should say that these two chapters are quite brief and therefore barely scratch the subjects, but they will get the reader to think about them and hopefully research further.
Loren W. Christensen author of a bunch of books. - Scott Flint is an accomplished martial artist and self defense trainer. In this book he will teach you ways to increase your awareness, methods to develop your instinctual fighting ability and techniques to keep you safe wherever you go.
This is not a book for the faint of heart or weak of stomach. Scott goes right for the jugular, and pulls no punches with the techniques shown. His style is very much in your face and up close and personal. As he puts it you must become your assailants worst nightmare if you are to survive
As a full time self defense trainer and part time law enforcement officer, I am constantly amazed by recommendations made by well-intentioned people that you should give in to the attacker and just do whatever he says. My experience and research has shown that the individuals who are mentally aware, properly trained and are willing to fight back are the survivors. This book clearly shows how to do all three.
The good news is that statistics show that the people that are the most prepared to defend themselves are the most likely not to get attacked. Although most attackers are dumb, they are not stupid. Just as the tiger looks for the weakest animal in the herd, the predator looks for signs of weakness when choosing a victim. Just the mere act of preparing yourself may be enough to keep you safe.
Waking the Tiger Within is easy to follow and understand and should be considered a must-read for anyone interested in defending themselves and their loved ones from violent attacks. - Just wanted to let you know that I have read this book and it is great!! It is the best material I have ever encountered that deals with self-defense. It is full of useful tips and ideas to keep you and your loved ones safe. This book should be required reading for everyone. If you are contemplating buying this book, go ahead. You will not be sorry you did. Good job, Scott!
